I remember on this date 20 years ago, the hip hop world was shakened up. Just six months earlier we had lost 2pac to Gun Violence in Las Vegas and here we were losing another young hip hop star The Notorious B.I.G. We used to refer to him as Biggie Smalls.

I did a post this morning on my Facebook page where I remember waking up on this particular Saturday morning and hearing about the passing of The Notorious B.I.G. It seemed like my entire day was ruined. While there were plenty of artist who were out and who I was a fan of. It seemed like I could really relate to Biggie, his flow was on another level and honestly he looked like you and me. While he had the gift of words, he could be the average guy that you would see walking down the street.

That was the longest Sunday ever for me. It was like losing a family member and wanting to hear one more goodbye. I remember seeing Puff Daddy do an interview with MTV and talk about what happened on that night. I remember the very sad look on his face and visualizing what he had seen that day and wondering why this could happen.

This seemed to go down as another unsolved murder and the music world was at a loss about what was coming next. He had just released his new single 'Hypnotize' and it had the clubs and radio rolling. A few weeks after that the release of 'Life After Death' was on the shelves and the album sold out like crazy. I remember going to the record store with my friend at the time and each one of us picked up a copy of the album. I remember putting it in my cd player and jamming to it for months and months.

So today we remember the coolest player of them all with a five o' clock jumpoff mix with DJ Ty Ski setting things off this afternoon. Check out some of my favorite videos from the legend below.
