Today in Tha Wire 21-years after his untimely death Tupac Shakur will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.  Pac will be inducted April 7, 2017 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn along with Pearl Jam.  What's unique about to two is the fact that they are the very first artists from the 90's to be inducted.  Matter of fact this year, is the very first time either of them has been eligible to even be nominated for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

So if you were wondering why the Death Row legend is just now getting his props, it's because an artist is only eligible to be inducted 25-years after their first recording.  Next year Pac will become the sixth rap artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, joining Public Enemy, Run-D.M.C., the Beastie Boys, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five and this years inductees, N.W.A.

Hip Hop has come a long way in being included into the convented Hall of Fame, but it hasn't come without drama.  During their induction speech this year, N.W.A. addressed some shady comments made by KISS bassist, Gene Simmons.  The rocker's been pretty vocal about his feelings towards Hip Hop/Rap music having no place in the Rock Hall.  During an interview in 2014 he said,

"A few people decide what's in and what's not," he continued. "And the masses just scratch their heads. You've got Grandmaster Flash in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Run-D.M.C. in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? You're killing me. That doesn't mean those aren't good artists. But they don't play guitar. They sample and they talk. Not even sing."

According to Rolling Stone MC Ren clapped back during his groups acceptance speech and said, “I want to say to Mr. Gene Simmons that hip-hop is here forever. We’re supposed to be here.”  Ice Cube added his two cents, “The question is, ‘Are we rock ‘n’ roll?  And I say — you goddamn right we rock ‘n’ roll.”  Peep the video below and see how it all went down.

Also included in the 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class are soft rock legends Journey, prog band Yes, pop-rock group Electric Light Orchestra, 60s folk icon Joan Baez and Chic founder Nile Rogers.  Rodgers will be honored with the Award For Musical Excellence as well.  What's crazy is his group members wont get any recognition for the award. Matter of fact Chic, has reportedly been passed over 11 times for Hall of Fame induction.

Though thrilled with the award the soul legend couldn't help but address the bizarre nomination telling Rolling Stone, “It’s sort of bittersweet,” says Rodgers continued. “I’m quite flattered that they believed that I was worthy, but my band Chic didn’t win. They plucked me out of the band and said, ‘You’re better than Chic.’ That’s wacky to me … I am flattered and I think it’s cool, but I feel like somebody put me in the lifeboat and told my family they can’t get in.”

He's kinda right too... By the way for the second year in a row Janet Jackson and Chaka Khan were nominated, but didn't make the cut.

Finally Chance The Rapper was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live and stole the show over the weekend.  The 2016 Artist of The Year proved to be pretty funny in a parody of Run-DMC’s “Christmas in Hollis,” alongside Keenan Thompson and Leslie Jones.  Setting up the skit below the annual SNL Christmas episode didn't disappoint as the Chicago MC(playing DMC,) celebrated President Barack Obama’s final Christmas in office and everything we’ll miss about the POTUS, then the real DMC makes a cameo:
