An unarmed former Florida A&M football player was shot and killed by a police officer in North Carolina after he wrecked his car and went to search for help at a nearby home.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, 24-year-old Jonathan A. Ferrell, who played for FAMU in 2009 - 2010 had recently moved to North Carolina. On Saturday morning he had apparently been in a wreck and was seeking help at a nearby home. A woman at the residence answered the door, and when she didn't recognize the man, she called 911.

Police officers responding to a possible breaking-and-entering call found a man that fit the description of Ferrell a short distance from the home. As they approached him, Ferrell ran toward the officers and was hit with a taser. He then continued to run toward the officer's when officer Randall Kerrick fired his gun, hitting Ferrell several times. Ferrell died at the scene.  [WCTV]
