We Are Not Supermen, Fellas – Don’t Feel Pressured
As a man, I feel like it's important to know that I am not Superman. As a young man, I remember hearing men are not supposed to cry. We are supposed to suck up the pain, regardless of how uncomfortable it is, and keep going.
As I matured, I realized this is not a good way to raise our young men. If we are told to hold in our feelings, when are they expected to come out? An even better question is in what way will they come out?
We are generally the bread winners in the house. We are mainly the ones who make the major decisions on how our families will be taken care of. However, what if there is a feeling of being overwhelmed? Who is there to take on our heavy load and feeling of being lost at times? I am writing this post to assure all of my fellas that you are not alone. You don't have to take on the world by yourself. It truly helps if you have someone who is your soulmate and can help you when you're feeling done.
If that is not the case for you, then find that friend or family member and just talk. If there is a moment when you need to cry, let it out. If you feel like you need to yell, do that as well.
The playbook of how a man is supposed to react under pressure needs to be rewritten. It needs to be said that we are vulnerable as well. We have moments of fear and doubt. We have moments where we feel like sometimes we can't keep pushing. We understand that there are plenty of people relying on us, but we may not have the answers.
Take it from me. Everything in my life is not perfect. However, every day that I live is another day to do better than yesterday. Take some time for yourself, meditate, pray if you choose. Just don't give up. You have got so much more to live for and the world needs you here. Even a computer has to be restarted every now and then.
