Wiz Khalifa, Yung Baby Tate, AJ Tracey and More: New Projects This Week
This week marks the official start to the first Fashion Week of 2019, as well as the return of one of hip-hop’s favorite tandems. If you’re feeling nostalgic, there’s a new reason to party like it’s 2009.
Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y go way back. To commemorate their more than a decade-long friendship, the Rolling Papers rapper and the Hot Spitta re-released their 10-year-old How Fly project, allowing the likes of Tidal, Spotify and Apple Music to stream it for the first time. The two followed that up this week by dropping their new joint project, 2009. Familiar names such as Dame Grease, Cardo and Sledgren provide production for the 14-track project. Wiz and Curren$y’s 2009 Tour, which also starts this week, is expected to make 20 stops, including New Orleans, Atlanta and Houston.
Yung Baby Tate had a head start on the new release front this week. The Atlanta artist dropped Girls on Tuesday (Feb. 5). The self-produced album features the singles "Wild Girl" and the remix to "Pretty Girl,” as well as guest appearances from Kari Faux, Killumantii, Baby Rose and a few others. Tate is scheduled to assist Leikeli47 on her upcoming The Acrylic Tour.
For his self-titled debut album, London rapper AJ Tracey connects the U.K. with U.S. The West Londoner appears alongside Giggs on “Nothing But Net” and Brooklyn’s Jay Critch on “Necklace.” AJ Tracey follows EPs like Secure the Bag! and Lil Tracey.
