2017 Grammy Recap : Best Performances – Tha Wire
Today in Tha Wire EVERYBODY's talking about the 2017 Grammy Awards. There was certainly a lot to see and talk about. Of course the fashion was a big portion of the show. There's always somebody doing something crazy, and this year the stars didn't disappoint from Rihanna's bling flask, to Cee Lo Green's crazy outfit.
This years Grammy Awards show was pretty good though. As for the awards, I gotta say they were distributed evenly and fairly for a change. I still think the Rap and Urban categories are two small, but all-in-all I think everything was fair. Though Queen Bey was nominated 9 times, she ultimately ended up winning two Grammys. Of course her trophy's were for her album Lemonade. Bey took the Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best Music Video for the LP's lead-off single, "Formation."
The top prize went to Adele. Honestly, I'm not mad about it. Her album 25, was phenomenal and if anyone deserved to win other than Beyonce, she would be the only other choice. In addition to winning the Album Of The Year, Adele won a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal, Record of The Year and Song of The Year for, "Hello"
I don't get how Rihanna didn't win anything for Anti. I was super surprised about that...maybe that's why she brought her flask. Moving on, Drake walked away with two Grammys, one for Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Performance
for his monster hit, “Hotline Bling.” The only other rapper to win an award is Chance The Rapper, who scored three trophies for, Coloring Book. Chance had a huge impact on Hip Hop and Politics last year, so he was absolutely deserving of his awards. He won Best Rap Album, Best New Artist, and Best Rap Performance for, “No Problem” [featuring Lil Wayne & 2 Chainz.] Once again Chris Brown is completely overlooked. There was nothing for J. Cole, DJ Khaled, Fat Joe or Fetty Wap?
Other the Breezy snub....R&B got some love this time around, with Best R&B Album going to Lalah Hathaway for her amazing LP, Lalah Hathaway Live! Maxwell picked up a Grammy for his single "Lake By The Ocean," and won the award for Best R&B Song. While Solange won a long overdo trophy for Best R&B Performance on her hit single, “Cranes In The Sky.”
