Bad Boys 3 has officially been renamed. The hit franchise starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as Detective Mike Lowery and Detective Marcus Burnett will official be called Bad Boys For Life.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the film will also be backed up, and the new date for the movie is tentatively Jan. 12, 2018. The name change reportedly comes from a line in 2003's Bad Boys II, when Will Smith's Detective Mike Lowery tells Martin's Lawrence's Detective Burnett, "We ride together, we die together. Bad boys for life." The line was delivered right before the two cops had to squad up to go rescue Burnett's sister (played by Gabrielle Union) from crazed drug lords.

But really, we all know Bad Boy's Diddy was the one who made the phrase popular with his 2001 hit, "Bad Boys for Life."  Diddy also fittingly helmed the signature song for Bad Boys II along with Nelly and Murphy Lee, "Shake Ya Tailfeather."

This go-around,The Grey's Joe Carnahan is in the director's chair, replacing Michael Bay, who directed the first two installments of the franchise. So far, the movie has had three different release dates—one in February 2017, one in June 2017, and now, this latest date set for early winter 2018. Bad Boys 4 is still slated to be released in July 2019. No word on whether that film will receive a name change or not.
