Singer Chris Brown was arrested this week on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, but could a text message be the determining factor of his innocence?

Some reports are saying that the accusations that Brown pulled a gun on a woman, Baylee Curran, in his home recently could also be a part of a not so elaborate set up against the singer. The woman is now being sought after by police in New York on theft charges, and a roommate has gone on record claiming the woman is known for making things up.

“I know she steals. I know she was obsessed with Chris Brown, she always has been,” Monroe told Complex of her former friend via email. “Do I think she did it for attention? Sure. Do I think Chris told her to get out? Sure, and maybe startled her, but I truly don't believe she was assaulted.”

In a series of videos posted to Brown’s Instagram, he vents his frustration of being awakened in the middle of the night by police at his gate and helicopters circling the home. Brown maintains his innocence in the videos that have been since removed from his account.

According to Complex, there are text messages suggesting accuser Baylee Curran may have made up the entire thing as a way of getting back at Brown for kicking her out of his home after "she called his friend's jewelry fake.” Those texts are currently being authenticated by Brown’s lawyer.

After being released on a $250,000 bond, the singer is keeping the show going with his latest video for “Grass Ain’t Greener,” from his seventh studio album Royalty. Watch it here.
