Funeral services for Chris Kelly, one-half of the rap duo Kris Kross, will take place in Atlanta this week.

A rep for Murray Brothers Funeral Home told the Associated Press that a public memorial will be held for Kelly on Wednesday (May 8) throughout the afternoon and evening, with the funeral services taking place on Thursday (May 9).

Kelly died May 1 in his Atlanta home from a suspected drug overdose. The 34-year-old rapper's mother, Donna Kelly Pratt, said he became ill after using cocaine and heroin the night before he died. An autospy has been performed but the medical examiner has not released the toxicology results as of yet.

In a statement, fellow Kris Kross rapper Chris Smith said Kelly was like a brother to him and he will be sorely missed.

"Our friendship began as little boys in first grade. We grew up together. It was a blessing to achieve the success, travel the world and entertain Kris Kross fans all around the world with my best friend," he said. "It is what we wanted to do and what brought us happiness. I will always cherish the memories of the C-Connection."

Kelly’s death comes just a few months after he reunited with Smith for the So-So Def 20th Anniversary All-Star concert.
