Chrisette Michelle, Musiq Soulchild, MC Lyte & More Launch ‘Love Jones The Musical’

Today in Tha Wire, we all have a list of "All Time Favorite Movies." I am no exception. If I had to give a short list, movies like "Jason's Lyric", "Poetic Justice", "Boomerang", "Baby Boy", "The Wood", "Soul Food" and "The Best Man" all come to mind. Of course, there's more, but if I had to pick an absolute favorite..."Love Jones" would be #1!

Both the movie and the soundtrack were the bomb! It came out in 1997 and stared Larenz Tate, Nia Long, Isaiah Washington, Bill Bellamy, and Lisa Nicole Carson. That movie was fire from beginning to end. If you haven't seen it, watch it tonight. Trust me, you wont be disappointed. About midway through the film, Larenz Tate's character, Darius Lovehall, recites the poem A Blues For Nina, better known as Brotha To The Night, and sweeps Nia's character off her feet with a "Love Jones" that wont quit.

Oh yes...this was one sexy, memorable movie. Which is why I was super excited to hear that not only is the movie being turned into a musical, but an all-star cast of some of the biggest stars in R&B and Hip Hop will be a part of it. The iconic film has been adapted into a stage play and will reportedly feature Musiq Soulchild, Raheem Devaughn, Chrisette Michelle, Marsha Ambrosius, MC Lyte and Dave Hollister. Meet the talented actors in the cast.

Word has it the "Love Jones" stage play will embark on a national tour this fall! Producer Melvin Childs said, “We are really excited about this opportunity to break new ground with this musical, as it relates to African American offerings in theater around the country,” He continued, “Our team has created something truly special and sincerely hope to live up to the expectations of the fans of the iconic film, Love Jones.” Below is a look at what you can expect!
