Just when you thought the streets were yours again and you could go drag racing down Ryan Street, I have news for you. While it’s good news for some, many of you may not be fans. Congratulations to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office. They have been awarded nearly $85,000 in grant funding from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.

Why is this bad news for you? Well, the grant was awarded so they can conduct additional traffic safety enforcement activities throughout the year. This is being done to reduce traffic crashes, which in most cases lead to serious injuries and fatalities.

This also should heighten your alert, as this will be used to place off-duty deputies on the roads to enforce seatbelt usage and help put a stop to drinking and driving.

Be prepared, as the Sheriff’s office will participate in nationwide campaigns like Click It or Ticket, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, and Buckle up in Your Truck. While I make light of it a little, this is needed as many people are killed yearly from drunk drivers or from not wearing their seatbelts. Make sure you are safe this holiday season and be on the lookout, as they will be on the lookout for you.
