Drake Thanks Kanye West for Contributing to Career on ‘So Far Gone’ Mixtape Anniversary
Ten years after he dropped his third mixtape, Drake puts his problems with Kanye West aside to thank him for influencing his third mixtape, So Far Gone.
Earlier this morning (Feb. 13), Drizzy gave Kanye a shoutout as he reflected on the 10-year anniversary of his breakthrough mixtape."@kanyewest a decade ago I rapped over your beat cause you just made the best shit and even though you stay wildin on twitter these days I will never forget what you contributed to the game and my career," Drake said in the caption for his Instagram post that included his So Far Gone cover.
If you recall, Drake spit a freestyle over 'Ye's "Say You Will" instrumental, dubbing the track "Say What's Real." Since then, both artists have collaborated together on songs like "Forever," "Glow" and Big Sean's "Blessings (Remix)." Fast forward to Summer 2018, both competitive rappers got caught up in one of the most unpredictable rap beefs of the past five years after Pusha-T dropped his Daytona album featuring "Infrared," a song that takes aim at Drake for a few bars.
By the end of 2018, Kanye went on another viral Twitter rant after hearing a rumor about Drizzy and his wife Kim Kardashian, and demanded an apology from the Toronto rapper. Shortly afterwards, Drake's camp sent him a request to clear the sample for "Say What's Real." In a series of tweets, 'Ye claimed that Drake eventually called him and allegedly threatened him and his family. He also said that Drake sneak-dissed him on Travis Scott's "Sicko Mode."
Although 'Ye has resolved his issues with Scott, he has yet to publicly dead his beef with Drake. This seems like a step in the right direction.
Getting back to Drake's new commemorative IG post, Drizzy thanks people involved with the mixtape, including Future The Prince, Noah "40" Shebib, Oliver El Khatib, Jas Prince, Boi-1da, Bun B, Trey Songz, Omarion, Lloyd and of course Lil Wayne. Drake says he's releasing So Far Gone on streaming services tomorrow (Feb. 14).
