Your community is what you make it, so get ACTIVE.  October is National Domestic Violence Awareness month.This week I have some important dates from the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence (LCADV). The Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence is the federally designated statewide coalition of shelters, non-residential programs and individuals working to end domestic violence in Louisiana. Their programs serve people from everywhere in Louisiana and who come from all backgrounds. They oppose violence as a means of control over others and support equality in relationships. Restaurant Nights are a great way to give back without actually having to come out of your pocket. Ten percent of your meal ticket will go to Oasis to help a family in the shelter move towards independence. (Oct. 9th, Texas Roadhouse, Oct. 16th, Raisin Canes and Oct. 23rd, O’Charleys)

Walk for Domestic Violence Lt. Gerald Thomas of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Office will walk from Vinton’s Sheriffs Station  to Lake Charles. This walk is not only to raise awareness but it is symbolic of the lives lost, lives survived and lives that will be saved.

Flowers on the Lake - is how we acknowledge the past, rejoice in the present and hope for the future. Come get inspired! Hear personal testimonies of Domestic and Sexual Violence. Join us October 30th at the Civic Center Seawall at 5:30pm.
