Today in Tha Wire Southern University finally broke their three-game losing streak to Grambling State. The took the big "W" in a 52-30 victory, at the 2018 Bayou Classic over the Thanksgiving holiday. So now the Jaguars will advance to the SWAC championships going down on December 1. Outside of the intense battle to be this year's classic champs, at the NOLA Mercedes-Benz Superdome, this year was extra special for both schools, alumni and fan's. I'll get to that in a few. Meanwhile, if you missed the game below peep this years highlights compliments of NBC Sports
Of course, if folks didn't come for the gridiron rivalry, they definitely came to see which band would earn braggin rights for the year on having the baddest, show-stoppin Classic performance in the land. People come from far and wide to witness the Battle of The Bands, as the legendary HBCU's go toe-to-toe in an epic marching band competition like none other. It's no secret that SU and GSU, are just as competitive in the field of music, as they are with the pigskin. Take a look at this year's halftime show presented by Proctor & Gamble/CREST. What did you think? Take the poll on...who, got who this year?
What did you think? Take the poll on...who, got who this year? As I stated before this year was extra special. The Source reports Classic spectators were treated to a history-making moment. For the first time, the world famous Tigers and Human Jukebox marching bands came together as one! In the name of peace, love, and soul...they teamed up to form the world’s largest HBCU Soul Train dance line. It was a sight to see too!
Southern and Grambling joined forces with BET Networks to commemorate the annual Soul Train Music Awards and celebrate the dance line made famous from the iconic TV show. Together they partnered with the Bayou Classic and the National Artist Development Group, to coordinate the entire event and have it officially documented for the Guinness World Records.
Congratulations to both schools! FYI the previous Guinness World Record of the largest Soul Train was set by 426 people during the Goodyear 4th of July Celebration. It all went down at Goodyear Ballpark in Arizona four years ago in 2014. Below is a look back at how that went down. Enjoy!
