Cameron is dealing with major effects of Hurricane Delta, losing roadway shoulders and entire highways due to floodwater and heavy rains from the storm. DOTD told KPLC Delta dumped a massive amount of rain on Cameron Parish, and the widespread damage has led to the closure of LA 82 and other roadways.

DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson said the emergency repairs for that highway will cost millions. LA 82 is completely washed out at mile marker 42 between the Cameron Ferry and Holly Beach, causing a major inconvenience for residents needing to commute. In addition, it's going to take some time and plenty of manpower to repair the highly traveled roadway. Even worse, Wilson said the floodwaters and storm surge damaged other roadways DOTD is monitoring in the parish.

Meanwhile, DOTD officials have removed more than nine feet of water from under LA 82 as repairs to the roadway have already begun. Wilson estimates the emergency road construction project should take a month, provided the weather cooperates.
