Both Lanes Of I-10 Eastbound At Sorrento To Close For Nearly 3 Days Weekend Of January 13
If you plan on traveling I-10 between Baton Rouge and New Orleans the weekend of January 13, you may want to take an alternate route.
Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, January 13 both eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 will be closed for nearly three days as crews will be working to remove the damaged section of an overpass bridge south of Sorrento near Airline Highway.
I-10 Eastbound will have both Travel Lanes closed, at the intersection of I-10 with US 61 in Ascension Parish. The full interstate closure eastbound will begin Friday January 13, 2017 at 9:00 p.m. and will remain closed through Monday, January 16, 2017 until 5:00 a.m. (weather permitting). Motorists traveling eastbound will be required to exit onto US Hwy 61. Then they will proceed to LA Hwy 641 to get back to Interstate 10 as shown in the attached detour map. The closure of Interstate 10 is to allow crews to remove the damaged section of the bridge for the Westbound On Ramp onto I-10 from US 61.
Delays will be expected, so taking Highway 90 from Lafayette would probably be the best bet.
