Lent Season Starts in SWLA With Crawfish and Slower Days
🐊 KNGT 🐊 | Louisiana — Well y’all… Mardi Gras wrapped up, the last float rolled by, and now here we are… Lent season in Southwest Louisiana.
And you know what that means around Lake Charles, Sulphur, Moss Bluff, and Vinton… it’s crawfish time.
After weeks of runnin’ wild on Ryan Street, chasin’ beads, emceein’ Krewe balls, and partyin’ on the Buddy Russ Bus… it feels kinda nice to slow down a little. Lent hits, and folks start tradin’ king cake for seafood plates and Friday fish fries.
And down here, we take that serious.
You roll up to a backyard in Sulphur, and there’s steam comin’ off a big ol’ pot. Somebody’s uncle stirrin’ crawfish with a paddle like he’s makin’ gumbo for an army. Kids playin’ tag. Somebody yellin’, “They ready yet?” every two minutes.
That’s Lent in SWLA.
Now look… Lent’s about reflectin’ and takin’ things easy for a bit. And I kinda love that. After the craziness of Mardi Gras season on Gator 99.5, it’s nice to sit at the table with Laura and Hannah, peel crawfish slow, talk about life, and just laugh.
We ain’t gotta rush nowhere. No float lineup. No costume hunt. Just friends, family, and a cold drink sittin’ in an ice chest.
And yeah… maybe we get a little fat and sassy along the way. That’s okay. Crawfish season don’t last forever. You gotta enjoy it while it’s here.
Soon enough we gonna be talkin’ rodeos at Burton Coliseum, spring fairs, and snow cone showdowns again. Life gonna speed right back up.
So right now… during Lent… take a breath. Eat some crawfish. Go to fish fry at church. Sit outside and listen to the crickets.
We made it through Mardi Gras, y’all.
Now it’s time for slower nights, full plates, and good company.
That’s Southwest Louisiana livin’ right there.
