Jim Jones Avoids Jail Time in Gun and Drug Case: Report
On Saturday (April 13), TMZ reported the Harlem rapper was sentenced to two years probation, a $1,500 fine and must pay court costs in a deal reached between his lawyer and prosecutors. Capo will have to check in with a probation officer in Georgia for the next 24 months.
As previously reported, Jim was arrested on June 20, 2018. He was pulled over while riding passenger in a Mercedes SUV that was observed swerving on Interstate 85. The driver of the vehicle tried to escape police pursuit but crashed into a police cruiser in the process. During a search of the vehicle, authorities discovered two guns, one of which was reported stolen in March. They also recovered two pill bottles containing 31 total Oxycodone pills, containers of marijuana, a blunt and three vape pens containing THC oil. Jones denied the guns and weed were his but admitted to owning one of the bottles of pills.
In October, he was officially charged in the incident with five felonies including three counts of possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was also hit with one misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana, less than an ounce. According to the latest report, three of the six charges — the felony drug charge and two felony counts of possession of a firearm — were dropped as part of the plea deal. The other three charges will be cleared once Jones completes his probationary period without any issues.
