Kendrick Lamar Will Perform at 2017 MTV Video Music Awards
The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards are all set to take place on Sun., Aug. 27 at 8 p.m. EST., and at some point during the show, Kendrick Lamar will take the stage. MTV used a promo to announce this bit of news on Thursday afternoon. Check it out for yourself below.
This announcement marks just another huge W for K. Dot, whose DAMN. was the best-selling album of 2017 as of about a month ago. Featuring dynamic production, visceral lyrics and energetic, speaker-thumping anthems, DAMN. is loaded with tracks that would make for a ridiculous MTV VMA performance. Our money's on K. Dot offering to perform a medley of tracks like "Humble," "DNA" and the Rihanna-assisted "Loyalty."
Seeing as he's had some of the most stunningly inventive videos all year, it shouldn't be surprising to find out K. Dot's been nominated for Artist of the Year. His video for "Humble" earned him noms for Best Art Direction, Best Visual Effects, Best Hip-Hop, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Choreography and Video of the Year. In the latter category, he faces some stiff competition from The Weeknd ("Reminder"), DJ Khaled, Rihanna and Bryson Tiller ("Wild Thoughts"), Bruno Mars ("24k Magic") and Alessia Cara ("Scars to Your Beautiful"). Weeknd will also perform at the show.
Hosting the awards show will be none other than Katy Perry, who's collabed with Migos (“Bon Appetit”) and Nicki Minaj ("Swish, Swish") earlier this year. Should be fun.
Make sure to vote for the 2017 MTV VMA's when you get the chance, and stay tuned for more updates on the star-studded awards show. It should be dope.
