History was made today as Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, was confirmed as the 116th Supreme Court Justice! Thursday, April 7, 2022, is indeed a historic day in American history in that elected to the Supreme Court is the first African American female justice.

The Senate chamber was packed as Judge Jackson was officially confirmed today by a vote of 53 yeas and 47 nays. Crossing party lines were three Republican Senators including Mitt Romney of Utah, Susan Collins of Maine, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska. Marking this historic moment Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer remarked, this is a "joyous, momentous, groundbreaking day." Schumer added, "In the 233-year history of the Supreme Court, never, never has a Black woman held the title of Justice. Ketanji Brown Jackson will be the first, and I believe the first of more to come."
