More than three months have passed since Kevin Gates was released from East Moline Correctional Center in Illinois on Jan. 10, after serving nine months out of a 30-month sentence on felony gun possession. In that time, shows, songs and appearances from the Baton Rouge MC have been pretty much non-existent. Now we might know why Gates has been keeping a low-profile. According to a recent report, the rapper is having issues with his parole officer and has filed a restraining order in order to try to rectify the situation.

According to AllHipHop, Gates, born Kevin Gilyard, filed documents against John R. Baldwin, the Director of the Illinois Department of Corrections and Ned Shwartz, a parole officer for the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Gates claims he's satisfied the terms mandated in his probation agreement, including completing anger management courses, but has still been denied requests to travel to do work for upcoming dates. According to the report, the "Two Phones" rapper is no longer on house arrest and is not required to wear an ankle monitor but is required to stay in Cook County, Ill. where the charges stem from. Gates believes the decision of the parole officer has cost him tons of money and the ability to see his family.

"The decision to deny the Plaintiff's request is arbitrary and irrational since there is no rational relationship or a reasonable necessity by the Department to deny him permission to leave," the lawsuit reads.

Kevin Gates is pursuing a temporary restraining order as well as a preliminary injunction that would stop his parole officer from denying his travel requests. Gates has several upcoming show dates, including an appearance at the 2018 JMBLYA Festival.
