Lake Charles Captain Awarded D.A.R.E. Lifetime Achievement
Shouts out to Captain Tracy Darbonne on a job well done! She started her career with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office in 1994 as a D.A.R.E Officer. For more than 20 years Captain Darbonne educated SWLA youth about the D.A.R.E. program and how important is to say no to drugs, a life of crime, violence, bullying, and alcohol. She dedicated herself to teaching kids in 5th and 7th grades how to resist destructive behavior. In doing so, Darbonne also helped to build a positive relationship between law enforcement and the students in Calcasieu Parish.
She is a perfect example of law enforcement and what it means to protect and serve the communities they work in. For her tireless efforts teaching the anti-drug education program, Captain Darbonne was presented with the 2022 D.A.R.E. Lifetime Achievement Award earlier this month at the annual Louisiana D.A.R.E. Officer Training Conference in Opelousas. An honor she truly deserved said Sheriff Tony Mancuso. He shared more about Darbonne with the local news and how she made SWLA history. He said,
“Captain Darbonne has spent the majority of her career educating the youth in our community. She has worked very hard to make a lasting impression on the students in Calcasieu Parish. Captain Darbonne became the first female Captain at the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and is currently the supervisor over the Youth & D.A.R.E. Division. She leads by example and continues to instill passion to her fellow deputies, who strive to make positive interactions in the classroom.”
Congratulations Captain Tracy Darbonne and thank you for your service!
