Louisiana State Police Boost Mardi Gras Security – What You Need to Know
Louisiana State Troopers Bolster Security for Mardi Gras 2025
Planning on going to NOLA or other cities in the state to experience Mardi Gras? As the 2025 Carnival season approaches, Louisiana State Troopers are ramping up security efforts across the state, particularly in New Orleans. With large crowds expected to gather in the French Quarter and surrounding metro areas, law enforcement agencies are working together to ensure public safety.
Increased Law Enforcement Presence
Governor Jeff Landry has deployed over 150 Louisiana State Police Troopers to assist the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD). These troopers will patrol key areas, including the French Quarter, the Central Business District, major roadways, and parade routes. Their presence will include high-visibility foot and vehicle patrols to maintain order and deter criminal activity.
French Quarter Enhanced Security Zone (FQESZ)
To further enhance safety, officials are implementing a French Quarter Enhanced Security Zone (FQESZ) from February 28 through March 5, 2025. This zone will cover Canal Street to St. Ann Street between Royal Street and Dauphine Street. Troopers will strictly enforce security within this area, the Louisiana National Guard, and other state agencies, with a special focus on Bourbon Street.
FQESZ Safety Regulations
No Large Coolers or Backpacks: Ice chests and large bags (over 4.5” x 6.5”) are prohibited and subject to search.
Restricted Vehicle Access: Vehicles are not allowed within the FQESZ except for emergency purposes. Starting February 5, 2025, any vehicle parked within this zone will be towed.
Hotel Access for Visitors: Guests staying at Bourbon Street hotels must enter through Royal or Dauphine Streets. Proof of reservation and ID are required.
Mandatory Searches: Individuals refusing security searches will be denied entry.
Bourbon Street Road Closures: During peak pedestrian traffic, Bourbon Street will be closed to vehicles.
