As Beryl moves over Texas, the hurricane has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm. However, KATC-TV reports residents in Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana need to be on alert, as strong winds and whipping rains can wreak havoc. The whole region is under a Tornado Watch until 10 p.m.

Since Beryl has weakened, the storm is hammering Houston with wind gusts up to 84 mph at Hobby Airport, and thousands are dealing with widespread power outages. Moderate to local major coastal flooding from storm surges has been reported throughout Texas counties impacted by Tropical Storm Beryl. Rainfall totals in Houston were reportedly as much as 5 to 8 inches.

Seven Parishes in Louisiana, including portions of Acadiana, are now under a tornado watch. National Weather Center reports conditions are expected to worsen throughout the day in Lake Charles and Calcasieu Parish. Severe storms are in the forecast for the Watch area and are capable of producing tornadoes, damaging winds, and some hail.

Stay tuned to KPLC Weather and the National Weather Center for the latest on Tropical Storm Beryl.
