NYC Mayor de Blasio Wants Kanye West to Throw Block Party for Kids

New York City mayor Bill de Blasio is hitting the 'Ye button. On Monday afternoon, the 55-year-old city leader tweeted at Kanye West to encourage and to help the Chicago artist to throw a block party benefitting the NYC youth.

On Sunday, organizers canceled the third day of the Governer's Ball Festival -- including Kanye West's set -- due to extreme weather. As a result, Kanye was free to make a special appearance at Summer Jam. Then, he tried to throw a 2 a.m. concert at Webster Hall and attempted to contact de Blasio about shutting down part of the street for a block party. The mayor was likely asleep when Yeezy hit him up originally, and, luckily, it seems de Blasio is open to working with him on this endeavor. It's been a big week for Kanye. On Friday, among a bevy of new releases from major artists, 'Ye might've won the day by dropping "Champions," the first single from Cruel Winter. 24 hours prior, 'Ye and ScHoolboy Q delivered the music video for "That Part." On that same day, information regarding the Yeezy Season 2 footwear lineup finally surfaced, and the adidas Yeezy Boost 750 Glow in the Dark got a release date -- June 11 at select retailers.

This isn't the first time de Blasio has popped up in hip-hop news. Last summer, he made an appearance on Ebro in the Morning to accept an apology from Russell Simmons after Uncle Rush called him a bitch. Then, in February of this year, de Blasio renamed part of Brooklyn's Sedgwick Avenue as Hip-Hop Boulevard.
