Memphis Pastor Stands Before Congregation and Confesses to Sexual Encounter with Teen Decades Ago
On Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, a Memphis pastor, 42-year-old Andy Savage, stood before his church congregation and confessed to sexually assaulting a teen decades ago, said CBS News.
It was in 1998 when a then 22-year-old Andy Savage was a college student working at a church in Texas that he says the incident took place between himself and a then 17-year-old Jules Woodson. Savage sat before the church congregation where he requested forgiveness, stating "As a college student on staff at a church in Texas more than 20 years ago, I regretfully had a sexual incident with a female high school senior in the church." He immediately received a standing ovation from the church.
Woodson recently went public about the incident on a Christian blog stating "I did it because I was scared and I was in shock and I didn't understand what was happening." But sadly, after notifying another pastor, he suggested she keep quiet. Weeks later Savage was gone.
Woodson says she emailed Savage last month but didn't receive a reply until Monday, where she said he then apologized.
