The famous Purple Rain coat worn by Prince in his iconic 1984 film is set to go up for auction this summer. The legendary musician wore the black-and-white, leather-sleeved blazer while riding a motorcycle with co-star Apollonia Kotero.

According to Associated Press, the coat is expected to have a starting asking price of $6,000-8,000 at auction house Profiles in History in California on June 29.

The auction house president, Joe Maddalena, called the item "the most important piece of screen-worn Prince clothing that's ever come up for auction."

The original seller of the garment said her sister, a makeup artist, received the piece from Prince after they worked together on Purple Rain.

"Prince memorabilia in general, it just really doesn't exist," Maddalena continued on the topic of the exclusivity of the item in the auction. "It seems like he controlled it all. This is the first time ever for something like this, and it might be the only time because the rest of the costumes may be in his (personal) wardrobe."

The June 29 auction will also feature Michael Jackson's Swarovski crystal-studded glove from the 1992 Dangerous world tour, along with costumes from Katy Perry, Alicia Keys and Britney Spears.

Still, Maddalena believes the Purple Rain blazer will be the "star of the show." And he's probably 100% correct considering since Prince passed away last week, people have been buying his music and memorabilia nonstop.

Meanwhile, the late guitarist's music has been selling briskly this past week as well.

According to Billboard, over 4 million copies of Prince's albums and songs have sold since his death on April 21. That number combines his sales on the day of April 21 (239,000 albums and 1.034 million song downloads), along with the sales reports for April 22-27 (496,000 albums and 2.24 million songs). These number's will likely change as Nielsen Music’s latest sales tracking week ends on April 28, and the final report from the week will be released on May 1.
