Crime and theft have been on an extreme increase everywhere. It doesn't matter where you live or work, burglaries and robberies are out of control and everyone is at risk.  Over the Christmas holiday rap pioneer/actress/model/director, Queen Latifah, became the victim of a carjacking last weekend in Atlanta.

The incident took place on December 20, at a Shell gas station according to Atlanta's FOX 5 News.  Fulton County Police said carjackings are on the rise across the country and the superstar was one of the many unfortunate victims of this crime.  The good news is Latifah wasn't harmed or in the vehicle when her $160,000 Mercedes-Benz S63, was stolen.  She had allowed a friend to drive the car to the station to gas up her ride.

The star of FOX TV's hit series Star, was in town filming an episode for the show when the theft occurred.  Fulton County Police say stealing cars at the pump, is the latest scheme.  Authorities report car thieves are simply jumping into people's cars, while the owner is pumping gas and driving-off in the vehicles.  That's exacting what happened in Latifah's situation, which by the way was captured on the gas stations video surveillance.  Peep the video below.

The police report revealed the driver of the 2015 Benz was pumping gas, when a white BMW pulled up alongside it. The next thing he knew the car started and speed-off before he could react.  5 News reports the luxury car was quickly located a short time afterwards, at an apartment complex in Southwest Atlanta. Security guards at the complex told police they saw three men near the vehicle, along with the white BMW and a Dodge Charger, which was also reported stolen.

Thankfully police recovered the superstars vehicle and are in the process of searching for the carjacking thieves.  Thanks to their stupidity tying them to the crime and making carjacking charges, which carry up to a 20-yr sentence stick, is going to be easy once the thieves are caught. Turns out their DNA is all over the lemonade and fruit juice bottles they left behind in the vehicle.

As always I'll keep you posted on any further developments on this story.  The moral of the story...lock your car when you get out to pump gas from here on out. Keep your keys and phone on you and pay attention to what's going on around you.  Be safe everybody.  Remember as thieves become more creative, we have to be more vigilant.
