The 2014 Soul Train Music Awards aired last night on BET's Centric network.  The show was hosted by Wendy Williams and took place at the Orleans Arena in Vegas.  From beginning to end, it was a really good show.

I must say it was good to see Chris Brown get some OVERDUE props for a change. He's had a rough few years personally, but in spite of it all his music has ALWAYS been on point. Yet award show and award show, Breezy has been overlooked.  Last night, he got his much deserved props, leading all artists with three wins.

Chris took home Best Hip Hop Song of The Year, Best Dance Performance and Best Collaboration for "Loyal."  Beyonce and Pharrell picked-up two awards each.  Pharrell's "Happy" won him Song and Video of the year, while Bey walked away with Album of The Year and Best R&B/Soul Female Artist.  Trey Songz scored the male artist win in that same category.  Other winners included Joe and Kelly Rowland, Leela James, Erica Campbell and Lacrae, Wynton Marsalis and Liv Warfield.  That said, I can't see how John Legend, Drake and Jennifer Hudson went home empty handed.  But it is what it is.

Chris Brown kicked the show off, taking his fans down memory lane performing "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)", "Poppin" and "Take You Down", then "New Flame" and "Loyal" from his new album X.  As always he put it down and set the tone for the show.  Don't forget Breezy hits the road in January with Trey Songz for the 'Between The Sheets', with two stops close to home.  For the itinerary and tickets click here.

The 2014 Soul Train Legend Award went to Kool & The Gang, another long overdue pad on the back.  The Kool tribute was FIRE! featuring Doug E. Fresh, Tank, MC Lyte & Elle Varner, Joe & Tamar Braxton, Tessanne Chin & Liv Warfield and a surprise from Ma$e. Then Eric Benet went into the classic "Ladies Night", leaving room for Lil Kim, Da Brat, Missy Elliott, Spinderella of Salt-N-Pepa and the late Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopez to rock the stage with the 1997  “Not Tonight (Ladies Night Remix).”  The sista's had everybody on their feet and were joined by other female rap royalty Yo Yo and Lady of Rage afterwards.

Another crowd pleaser was the return of Jodeci.  When they hit the stage, the crowd jumped to their feet.  They did a melody of their hottest tracks from "Freekin You" to "The Show" and then surprised the audience with their new single "Nobody Wins".  The new joint will be found on the groups forth comin album being produced by Timbaland sometime in 2015.  Meanwhile, B.O.B. is featured on Jodeci's first new single in 18-years and came out to perform spit a few bars, before the R&B legends went into "Come and Talk to Me" before wrapping things up with "Forever My Lady."

I must say, this was one of the best Soul Train Award shows in a minute.  For more details on the show and the winners, listen to Tha Wire below.  Plus find out what celebs are celebrating birthdays today.  For more videos, check-out BET.com.
