The saying is, "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." Well, for one lucky fan of Steve Harvey's  Hoodies Award, what happened in Vegas came home to Lake Charles! That's right -- Lake Charles native Kavin Wilson, (pronounced "Kevin") was listening to The Steve Harvey Morning Show and happened to enter one of the contests that was on the show that day.  Good thing he did...

Like any other contest, Kavin figured he would give it a shot! Some time later that day, Kavin was listening to 107 JAMZ and thought he heard his name on the radio. He reached out to us to see if this was true -- and it was! Kavin had just won a trip for two to the Hoodies Awards!

The Hoodies Awards was established by radio host/ comedian Steve Harvey in 2001, to celebrate the everyday men and women who impact and uplift their communities with service and passion. The weekend-long event was held in Las Vegas! The trip was paid for by the Nielsen Company through an interactive contest, such as Nielsen's Fun Facts! These are eye-opening insights about multicultural consumers that vary in topics from online- and television-viewing trends to cell phone usage.  Local winner Kavin Wilson stopped by The Afternoon Jumpoff to discuss how lucky he was to win, and talk about his experience of traveling to The Hoodies Awards:
