SWLA Hospitals Face Blood Supply Shortage
January is National Blood Supply month. Last year proved to be devastating to our local infrastructure in more ways than one. In addition to pandemic cases in Louisiana and Hurricanes Laura and Delta, SWLA hospitals are critically low on blood supply. According to Lake Charles Lifeshare Blood Center Director, Shawn Melancon, limited blood supply is also a nationwide crisis.
With the spike in virus cases in the area, mostly due to the recent holidays, the threat still remains. Lifeshare is calling on the public to donate and help with the local shortfall to build up the blood supply and convalescent plasma. To donate blood, you must be 16 years or older, 110 pounds or more, and in good health. For more details on how to give, click here.
