Teen Connection, Thurs., Jan. 16, Will Focus on Careers in Technology
The City of Lake Charles will host a free Teen Connection session for local teenagers, ages 13 to 18, on Thursday, January 16, from 5:00pm to 6:00pm at the Cpl. Donal Ray Stevens Community Center, located at 1619 Cessford Street. This weeks session will focus on careers in technology.
In today's fast-paced, digital world it makes sense that employment in computer and information technology occupations is expected to grow 12 percent between now and 2028 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
In fact, the Bureau projects that these occupations will add about 546,200 new jobs during this time period, with the demand stemming from a greater emphasis on cloud computing, the collection and storage of big data and information security.
According to a media release, additional topics for the spring semester also include: Awesome Jobs No One Really Knows About and How to Land Them, The Millionaire Mindset, Dollars and Sense, Credit or Leave it: The Importance of Establishing Credit, The Future Begins Today and Invest your Way Up: Basics of the Stock Market.
In October 2017, the City of Lake Charles began hosting the free Teen Connection seminars for teenagers, 13 to 18 years old, in Calcasieu Parish. Teen Connection is designed to help teenagers learn job skills, college prep, social media, interview skills, and ACT prep among others. The classes are instructed by educators, government officials, and business leaders in the community. - City of Lake Charles
