Everything is sky-high these days. Right? I'm sure I don't need to tell anyone that, but it's true. I just went to Target, I only had a few toiletries and cleaning supplies and my total was $300! Four bags. That's all I had.

Wages in many cases are still not equal or balanced in terms of the average living expenses, utilities, groceries let alone rent. In fact, for many of us, wages are probably the only thing to stay the same over the last five to ten years while prices of everything else keep going up. As Lake Charles continues to rebuild from nearly being wiped off the map after Hurricane Laura, housing is still hard to come.

I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but the #1 complaint I hear from people looking to move or relocate here is rent is very high. I got curious and wanted to see what the prices of some of the highest rentals in Lake Charles looked like. Here are a few of the listings I found ranging from $3,500 to $7,000 per month!

LOOK: See how much gasoline cost the year you started driving

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.

Read on to explore the cost of gas over time and rediscover just how much a gallon was when you first started driving.
