The Mardi Gras Carnival tradition takes place the 12th night after Christmas, January 6-February 17.  Every year Mardi Gras organizations—known as "krewes"—participate in annual parades, costume balls and parties.   Learn more about Mardi Gras here, or Mardi Gras lingo, and Mardi Gras History!  Fat Tuesday features back-to-back processions by some of the largest and oldest Mardi Gras Carnival organizations in the state.  Join in on all the celebrations and keep in mind flights and hotels fill up quickly so start planning your Mardi Gras celebrations now!  Laissez les bons temps rouler!"

*Community Dance - January 23rd

Free Mardi Gras dance presented by the City of Lake Charles and Community Inclusion.

Annual Mardi Gras Run - Saturday January 24th

Sponsored by Le Krewe de la Originals et Les Enfants and the Duck Festival Association features, don't miss the annual early morning chicken run beginning at 9 a.m.  Stick around for lunch, live music and auction.  Then get ready for the parade at 3 p.m. and a dance immediately afterward at 5 p.m.

34th Annual Lake Charles Mardi Gras Chicken Run - Saturday February 7th & 8th

The official kickoff party will be inside the KPC Hall this Saturday night with Lil Nate and The Zydeco Big Tymers live in concert for a big zydeco party like no other. The doors open at 9 and the party goes until. Then Sunday get ready for the parade with the lineup beginning at noon at the Lake Charles civic center. The parade kicks off at 12:45 pm. ATV's, UTV's, Horses and floats are all welcomed. If you are looking to enter a horse into the parade, make sure you call to pre regiseter your horse at 337-660-1050. Then after the parade get ready for the fun kicking off around 3 pm with Chris Ardoin and Nu Step and Sean Ardoin and Zydekool and the boss of Zydeco Keith Frank and the Soileau Zydeco band live in the building. This will be fun for the entire family and you are all invited to attend.

Vinton Mardi Gras Celebration - Saturday February 7th

Celebrate Mardi Gras in downtown Vinton.  The Krewe des Gratis will host a gumbo cook-off beginning at 10 a.m., followed by a parade at 2 p.m.  Then come out to the Knights of Columbus Hall, where the gumbo judging will begin at 3 p.m.

*Krewe of the Golden Years - Monday February 9

Senior citizens from around the area will enjoy Louisiana's Mardi Gras traditions from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Lake Charles Civic Center Coliseum for food and a Mardi Gras ball. This event is free to seniors 60 and up.

Merchants' Parade - Friday, February 13

The parade gets underway at 7 p.m. in downtown Lake Charles.

Carlyss Mardi Gras Trail Ride - Saturday, February 14

The trail ride begins at 8:30 a.m and begins and ends at West Cal Arena in Sulphur. Line up is at 6 a.m.  There is a $5 admission for trail riders.

*World Famous Cajun Extravaganza/Gumbo Cook-Off - Saturday, February 14

Get a taste-from-every-pot and enjoy the Southern and Cajun music Louisiana is known for.  The fun will take place 8 a.m.-2 p.m.  Children 5 and 5 are free and $5 admission for everyone else.

Krewe of Omega Parade - Saturday, February 14

Starts at 2 p.m. in downtown Lake Charles.

*Zydeco Dance - Saturday, February 14

Listen to live Zydeo from 3-5 p.m.

* Mystikal Krewe of Barkus Parade -Saturday, February 14

Register if you and your dog want to participate.  The parade begins at 3 p.m.
as area canines strut their stuff in full Mardi Gras attire.  The dog with best costume will be crowned "Mystikal Dog" of the year.  Entry fee will apply.

Krewe of Cosmos Presentation - Saturday, February 14

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. the Krewe of Cosmos will present their royal court in style at the Sulphur High School Auditorium with skits, music and much more.

*Krewe of Illusions - Saturday, February 14

Celebrate Mardi Gras with the annual presentation of the Krewe of Illusions at 7: pm. Tickets are $30 orchestra seating and formal attire is required. Reserved balcony seating is $18 and $15 standard balcony seating, casual attire will be excepted in this area.

*Taste de la Louisiane - Sunday, February 15

Come one come all from11 a.m.-2 p.m. taste all the traditional Louisiana cuisine you can handle.  $7 admission fee.

*Children's Day - Sunday, February 15
From noon-3 p.m. bring the kids to experience Louisiana culture, arts and crafts, Mardi Gras music and a magic show.  There will also be an education station complete with safety and health information.

Children's Parade - Sunday, February 15

Rolling through downtown Lake Charles at 3 p.m.

*Lighted Boat Parade - Sunday, February 15

Check-out the area's most beautiful boats as the light up the lake in the annual boat parade beginning at 7 p.m.

*Royal Gala - Monday, February 16

Come out an celebrate with this years 2015 Mardi Gras courts at 7 p.m.
There will be more than 50 krewes participating.  Children 5 and under are free and tickets are $5 in advance, or $6 at the door.

FAT TUESDAY

Iowa Chicken Run -Tuesday, February 17

Starting at 10 a.m. the chicken run begins and ends at KC Hall and runs west down 90. Ride a float, catch a chicken and finish with some good ol gumbo and live music.

Motor Gras Parade - 

Rolling through downtown Lake Charles at 11 a.m., come see classic hot rods and motorcycles.

Krewe of Krewes' Parade - 

Beginning at 5 p.m. in downtown Lake Charles see hundreds of floats and costumes, plus catch beads and more wind through the city in the culmination of the Fat Tuesday celebration.


Mardi Gras is the biggest celebration the city of New Orleans hosts every year. This magnificent, costumed, beaded and feathered party is laced with tradition and is all about having a good time!
