In a statewide news release, LA. State Police/TROOP D, is reminding ALL motorists to use extra caution while traveling this holiday season. “Zero Deaths for the Holidays” is what Troopers want this Christmas. Celebrations with family and friends is what everyone looks forward to during the holiday season, however this is the time of year when impaired driving tends to pick-up.

During the Christmas and New Year holiday La State Police will be on extra highway patrol, with various "NO REFUSAL" DUI Checkpoints set-up throughout the state. If a driver is pulled over for suspicion of DUI, and there is no option to decline a breath alcohol test. Troopers will obtain a warrant to take your blood, by needle from your arm and you'll have no right to refuse. So do yourself a huge favor, DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE.

TROOP D is urging all drivers to buckle-up, leave a little early so that you're not rushing, and using bad judgement. Remember to take personal responsibility while behind the wheel, and please don't drink and drive. If you know that you will be drinking over the holiday, Lyft-Lake Charles is teaming up with TROOP D & Southwest Beverage to provide FREE rides home. Download the mobile app to stay connected.

If you see a drunk driver, or someone under the influence call 911 immediately. For the latest road condition information including closures and construction, visit www.511la.org or dial 511.
