On Tuesday, after an hour of deliberating, the Calcasieu Parish School Board's Budget/Fiscal Management committee unanimously agreed on a reconfiguration plan involving Combre- Fondel and J.D. Clifton Elementary Schools.

The proposal is going to be reviewed by the full school board in June. With final approval, this would turn Combre into a school for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. This would allow Clifton to become an early childhood center for Head Start and Pre-K students.

The initial proposal would have the same criteria but with the schools alternating the academic grades.Karl Bruchhaus, CPSB superintendent, feels that the reconfiguration would be designed to raise more money and bring additional resources for early childhood education as well as boost teacher collaboration. This move would also solidify nine staff positions going forward.
