Annual Adopt-A-Spot, October 14, 2017
The City of Lake Charles and Keep Greater Lake Charles Beautiful – Team Green is holding the 2017 semi-annual Adopt-A-Spot Pick-up Day on Saturday, October 14, beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing until each area has been cleaned.
The citywide program allows individuals, neighborhood groups, civic organizations, school organizations, and businesses to play an active and ongoing role in cleaning, greening and beautifying parks, shorelines, storm drains, streets, trails and other public spaces. More than fifty sites have been adopted throughout the Lake Area by volunteers who host two pick-up days each year.
“With the help of hard-working volunteers, we can clean up all of Lake Charles in one morning,” said Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter. “Adopt-A-Spot not only helps beautify our city, but it also helps bring together the entire community—including corporate teams, school organizations, and local businesses—to take pride in our public spaces and parks and create a sense of community.”
Adopted locations are marked by signs to identify the volunteer groups who are provided with garbage bags, safety vests, and litter grabbers to pick up the litter. The city needs more volunteers and groups to help out, and is currently recruiting additional help to adopt a roadway.
