The Combined Anti-Drug Task Force stopped a car traveling eastbound on I-10 between Vinton and Sulphur for a traffic violation on January 9th, which resulted in the seizure of 4 grams of powder heroin, and 24 pounds of marijuana.
When the cars occupants began acting suspiciously, the driver, 23-year-old Patrick V. Roberts of Norfolk, Virginia, and passenger 35-year-old Timothy J. Baines II, of Houston were stopped by Detective Cpl. Kevin Hoover. Roberts refused Cpl. Hoover's permission to search the vehicle.
A search was conducted after a K9 alerted the presence of drugs. Approximately 4 grams of powder heroin and a duffle bag containing over 24 pounds of marijuana were seized. All of the drugs combined are worth an estimated street value of $60,000. A stolen 9mm handgun was also recovered from the car.
Roberts and Baines were arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute; possession of heroin, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a firearm in the presence of those illicit drugs.
Their bonds are pending
