Traffic Stop Leads to Cocaine Bust on I-10
A Church Point man was arrested over the weekend for trafficking cocaine on I-10 in Sulphur.
According to a media release, on Saturday, September 22 at about 4:30 am, an officer with the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) stopped a tow truck traveling eastbound in Sulphur for a traffic violation.
The driver reportedly began acting suspiciously once he was stopped and refused the officer permission to search the truck. A K-9, Sam, was deployed to conduct a "free air sniff around the truck" and that's when Sam responded to the odor of a controlled substance inside the vehicle. A search of the truck turned up 27 bundles, weighing 63 pounds, of powder cocaine with an estimated street value of $870,000.
Richard was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with possession of CDS II over 28 grams. His bond is set at $250,000.
