On April 28 at approximately 11:30am, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office deputies were called to a business on W. Dave Dugas Road in Sulphur in reference to a possible kidnapping. The deputies arrived and learned that an employee arrived to work and attempted to open the business an hour later and was found locked inside the building.

Upon viewing video surveillance, they observed a man identified as Matthew D. Allen of Sulphur had been dropped off at the business earlier that morning. For several hours, Allen remained on the property prior to the worker showing up to work.

After hours of watching footage, Allen was arrested at his residence in the same clothing as on the earlier surveillance footage. He is charged with second-degree kidnapping and attempted simple burglary. His bond was set at $70,000.
