For the first time acting legend Denzel Washington was speechless.  The 61-year old received a standing ovation during Sunday's 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards as he accepted the coveted Cecil B. DeMille Award.  According to HipHollywood, Washington was honored to receive the award, presented by Tom Hanks, who called him "the actor of our generation."

The legendary actor finally got an award that measures up to his acting excellence and was at a loss of words when he searched for the right words to say.  Thanks to some prompting by his family, who stood by his side he said,

“I’m speechless, I want to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for supporting me over the years. They always made me feel like a friend — part of the party.”

Washington also thanked his mother for “convincing my father that we need more than 25 watt bulbs, he thought that we could save money.”

Congratulations to Denzel on his award.  Congrats also goes out to Tarjai P. Henson who scored her first Golden Globe Award!  Henson has set the small screen on fire, ever since she introduced the world to Ms. Cookie Lyon on the monster TV hit Empire.  Winning an award for Best Actress In a TV Series Drama, the talented actress stood in awe of her award saying,

”Who knew that playing an ex-convict would take me all around the globe … It’s Cookie who spent 17 years in jail for selling crack. So the world loves real.”

She also gave a shout-out to the entire Empire cast and then served up some Cookie to producers, who told her to the wrap-up her speech shortly after she started talking saying, “I waited 20 years for this, you gonna wait.”

That's exactly what they did too!

Wrapping up Tha Wire, sadly Rock music icon David Bowie has died.  The BBC reports the singing legend passed away of liver cancer Sunday February 9, he was 69-years old.

His management released the following statement on his Facebook page that confirmed he "died peacefully, surrounded by his family" after an "18-month battle with cancer".  The singer had been dealing with the disease in private, which is why his passing seemed so shocking and sudden.

Stars from all over the world and every music genre took to social media to acknowledge what he meant to them and music.  Artists like Kanye West, Pharrell, Paul McCartney and more commented on what an "extraordinary artist" he was.  His death comes just days after he released his new album, Blackstar on his 69th birthday last Friday.  The album only features 7 tracks and is available now on iTunes: http://smarturl.it/blackstar_itunes Amazon: http://smarturl.it/blackstar_amazon and Spotify: http://smarturl.it/blackstar_spotify

Below is a look at the 10 minute music video for the tittle track.  I must say it's pretty dark, but Bowie was a different kind of brotha.

He leaves behind his beautiful wife of 23-years, super model Iman, his son 44-year old Duncan Jones from his marriage to former Cover Girl Angela Bowie, step daughter 37-year old Zulekha Haywood from Iman's prior marriage to NBA great Spencer Haywood and one daughter, 15-year old Alexandria Zahra Jones, that the two shared together.

Below Iman talks with Wendy Williams about her relationship with Bowie and gives the audience her advice to the secrets of having a lasting marriage.

David Bowie...gone to soon.  May he rest in peace.  Our condolences to his family and friends.  For more in entertainment news, listen to Tha Wire daily for the scoop.  LISTEN LIVE on The People Stations 107 Jamz at 12:50 p.m. to 3:35 p. m.
