Drake’s “God’s Plan” Certified 11-Times Platinum
Drake can add another notch under his platinum belt.
On Sept. 25, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) confirmed that the Canadian rapper's 2018 song "God's Plan" had been certified 11-times platinum.
This means that the record, which belongs to his 2018 album Scorpion, has sold at least 11 million units thus far, making "God's Plan" Drake's first-ever solo diamond certification. While the RIAA database claims that Drake first reached diamond status with Bad Bunny after their song "MIA" went Latin Diamond in July, the Latin distinction is important in this case. For that subdivision of platinum certifications, platinum is classified as any song or project that has sold 60,000 units.
The 6 God himself proclaimed last year that "God's Plan" is the most important song he'd ever done. In the official video, Drake hit up Miami Senior High School and donated $25,000 and some special OVO-designed uniforms to the school, which made them the first student body to ever possess Drizzy-certified gear. During that time, Drake also donated $50,000 to Lotus House, which is a women and children's shelter based in Miami.
Four months after its release last year, the song beat Drake's own record after it became his longest-leading Billboard Hot 100 single by reigning at the No. 1 spot for 11 consecutive weeks. Drizzy's song "One Dance" previously held the record at 10 weeks.
"God's Plan," along with other songs like "Nice for What," helped Drake, who recently wrapped up his tour in Europe, ascend to the top as the RIAA's top digital singles artist in July 2018. The groundbreaking track also earned a Grammy for Best Rap Song at the 2019 Grammy Awards.
Congratulations to Drake on his latest certification!
