UPDATE:

Restoration Efforts Continue Following Severe Thunderstorms

LAKE CHARLES, La. – With restoration continuing following two days of severe thunderstorms, Entergy Gulf States Louisiana reports that a majority of the customers able to receive power are back on line – less than 3,000 customers are still without power in the areas of Lake Charles, Moss Bluff, Hecker, Sulphur and Westlake.

The utility anticipates restoring power to many of those customers today; however a few restorations may not be complete until Monday.

At the peak, more than 16,000 Entergy Gulf States Louisiana customers were without power due to thunderstorms that blew through the Lake Charles area Friday night and into Saturday afternoon. Entergy’s efforts to restore power began immediately after the storms passed and it was safe for crews to begin assessing damage and restoring power. The storms damaged one of Entergy’s high-voltage transmission lines and damaged the distribution system. The town of Iowa and South Lake Charles were among the hardest-hit areas. As they assessed the damage following the storms, crews identified 20 broken poles and more than 50 spans of wire down throughout Southwest Louisiana.

Restoration crews have been working as safely and as quickly as possible to restore power to the area, and will continue until every customer is restored. Additional crews, both company and contractor, were brought in to assist with the restoration effort.

Entergy reminds customers to stay safe as storms continue to move through the area. They should stay away from dangling or fallen lines, and call Entergy immediately at 1-800-9OUTAGE.

“We at Entergy understand how important electrical service is to the communities we serve,” said Clyde Mitchell, a spokesperson with Entergy Gulf States Louisiana. “We have worked diligently to bring all our communities back on line.”
