FEMA Drive-Thru Center to Open in Abbeville
Louisiana residents affected by Hurricane Laura will have another FEMA Assistance Center to help them get their documents and paperwork in order to receive help from the federal government following the storm. FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has announced it will be opening a drive-thru assistance center in Abbeville.
That center, along with another FEMA Assistance Center will open in Shreveport on Thursday, September 17th. The purpose of the centers is to aid storm victims in filing documents to support and substantiate their recovery claims.
All COVID-19 protocols will be followed at this center which will operate from 7 am until 5 pm seven days a week. The center will be located at the LSU AgCenter Building. That facility is located at 1105 West Port Street in Abbeville.
Masks and face covering are required and those wanting to take advantage of the service will remain in their cars while a FEMA specialist retrieves your documents and scans them into your account. The documents will then be returned to your possession.
By the way, a similar assistance center at Lacassine High School was scheduled to close yesterday. FEMA officials have decided to keep that facility open at least through the end of the week.
