Grambling State Gets Ready For A Huge Celebration, About 110 Years Worth!
As we get a little bit closer to one of the bigget rivalries in SWAC History, one of the teams is also prepared for a big celebration. Get ready to pull out the cake, candles and put on your party best for the GSU Annivesary celebration.
Grambling State University is celebrating its 110th anniversary this week with convocations, tours, departmental exhibits and a ceremony to note that nine buildings have been added to the National Register of Historic Buildings.
Grambling opened in November 1901 as the Colored Industrial and Agricultural School. Its first president was Charles P. Adams, who was sent by Booker T. Washington to help organize the school.
It became a state junior college in the 1920s and awarded its first bachelor's degree in 1944.
The university now offers more than 800 courses and 68 degree programs in five colleges, including an honors college, two professional schools, a graduate school, and a Division of Continuing Education.
