Grambling State University is celebrating its 110th anniversary this week with convocations, tours, departmental exhibits and a ceremony to note that nine buildings have been added to the National Register of Historic Buildings.

Grambling opened in November 1901 as the Colored Industrial and Agricultural School. Its first president was Charles P. Adams, who was sent by Booker T. Washington to help organize the school.

It became a state junior college in the 1920s and awarded its first bachelor's degree in 1944.

The university now offers more than 800 courses and 68 degree programs in five colleges, including an honors college, two professional schools, a graduate school, and a Division of Continuing Education.

Congratulations to Grambling State University on a momentous occasion. We are getting ready for The Bayou Classics in New Orleans as they get ready to take on the Southern Jaguars on November 26th,2012 in The Superdome.
