Happy Voter Education Week, Know Your Voting Rights
Make your plan to vote today! If you are 18 or older now is the time to get registered to vote online or in-person at the Registrar of Voters Office ( 1000 Ryan Street, 2nd Floor, Suite #7). Other locations to vote in-person in Louisiana are as follows: Office of Motor Vehicles, Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services, WIC offices, Food Stamp Offices, Medicaid offices, and offices serving persons with disabilities such as the Deaf Action Centers and Independent Living Offices just to name a few.
A lot of times people make the mistake of only voting during big elections like a Presidential election. They are important of course, but the truth is ALL elections are important. Equally important is making sure you know what you are voting for and when the next election is going to take place.
All week long it's National Voter Education Week, so now is the perfect time to take care of all your voter business. Meaning, if you moved and need to update your address, got married or divorced, and need to update your name and personal information. Another good idea is to make sure that your ID is up to date as you must have a current ID in order to vote in Louisiana. Maybe you are a new voter and need information on where to vote or details about upcoming elections. Learn more about mail-in ballots and how to apply for one.
I have two awesome sources of information for you. First, the Calcasieu Parish Registrar of Voters is hosting an Open House all week. Stop by and ask questions or take care of any voter business you may need to tend to between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm. Another really great source of voting info is the Geaux Vote App. I highly recommend you download it today. It is easy to use, located all your voter information and status, find the dates of upcoming elections and results of an ongoing election, and much more.
