McNeese Holds “Victory Day” For Children With Special Needs

McNeese Football has been hard at work preparing for the 2023 season, but on Tuesday the Cowboys took some time to do something more important than football. The Cowboys held their annual "Victory Day."

This event allows cognitively and physically impaired children ages 8-18 the opportunity to play football or cheer, as well as participate in several game-day activities. Coach Gary Goff brought this tradition to McNeese last year and it was incredible!

"This is a great event and good to give back to the community, seeing these children with smiles on their faces and their family members watching them score touchdowns and hearing their names called out over the PA system, it's just a lot of fun." said McNeese Coach Gary Goff (quote courtesy of McNeese Athletics)

According to McNeese Athletics, each kid had their own special touchdown celebration as well. One, in particular, after scoring, handed a cheerleader the football and then told her to call him as he mimicked a phone to his ear. He then pretended like he was signing autographs.

Scoring Touchdowns wasn't the only activity McNeese had for the kids, they could also experience practice drills and try on game gear as well.

For kids with special needs, it is a day that some won't ever forget. It's not every day you get to run down the hill and into Cowboy Stadium as Public Adress Announcer Bruce Merchant calls out your name.
