Lake Charles, La. - The LaGrange Gators and Lafayette Mighty Lions will have to forfeit their 9th game of the season due to a fight that cleared both teams benches on Friday, October 20, 2017.

According to KPLC, they will forfeit this week's game against Acadiana and Sam Houston, giving both automatic wins on the season. Unfortunately, both Acadiana and Sam Houston will lose revenue on those home games.

Sam Houston was set to host senior night on Friday, but will instead honor them at an event on Thursday. Head coach Chad Paulk told the Daily Advertiser, he's pleased with a fourth win for the season, and the opportunity for several players to rest from injuries, but:

“That’s a huge issue,” Paulk said about losing the home gate, “and I know there’s nothing in the bylaws on that. If there’s forfeit in a game, there’s nothing that that school owes us. Something we would like to maybe propose going into next year with the LHSAA."

The Gators (3-4) beat the Mighty Lions (0-8) 24-7. Two people were ejected from the game, one player from LaGrange in the first quarter, and Lafayette head coach Rob Pool in the second quarter.
