Back in April 2015, Lil Wayne was leaving a club appearance in Atlanta when his tour bus was shot at on the interstate. No one was injured in the incident and the alleged culprit, Jimmy Winfrey, a.k.a Peewee Roscoe, was eventually tried and convicted of the shooting and sentenced to prison time. But in a recent twist in his case, the sentence he received has been overturned.

As previously reported, in June of 2015, Winfrey, who has ties to Young Thug, turned himself in to police in Cobb County, Ga., where he faced over 20 charges including aggravated assault, terroristic threats, possession of a firearm by a felon and criminal gang activity. In November of that year, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 10 years of probation, after pleading guilty to six charges following reportedly admitting to doing the crime for gang status.

Now, according to a report printed by the Atlanta-Journal Constitution on Friday (June 29), Winfrey's sentence has been overturned. Winfrey appealed his sentence back in February, alleging Cobb Superior Court Judge Mary Staley Clark "pushed" him into agreeing to a plea deal he previously declined by allegedly threatening him with a harder sentence if the case ended up in trial.

“This opportunity is going away,” the judge told Winfrey at the time. “Go to trial and you get convicted there’s not going to be any of me being concerned about when you parole out. I will not be concerned about when you parole out.”

On Friday, a Georgia Supreme Court decision over the appeal sided with Winfrey, deeming the judge went too far.

“There was a little screaming of joy, but it was a little difficult to tell over the telephone,” Winfrey's lawyer, Steven Sadow, told the paper.

Winfrey will remain locked up and his case will go back to the courts in its original form.
