There's some sad news coming from our neighbors in the North, as 21-year-old Toronto rapper, Smoke Dawg, was shot and killed on Saturday night (June 30).

According to the Toronto news outlet CP24, Smoke was one of three people who were injured in a shooting that occurred outside of the Cube nightclub at Queen Street West and Peter Street in the Entertainment District. The rapper didn't have any vital signs on the scene and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police believe either a black SUV or white car were used as getaway vehicles in the crime. "Our investigators are on-scene right now trying to piece this together," Const. David Hopkinson told CP24. "It is a large scene. We’re talking about the downtown core and Queen Street—one of the busiest streets on a very busy Canada Day weekend."

According to a witness, the scene became horrendous after shots rang out: "The scene just turned chaotic. There were people running everywhere, there were vehicles just trying to get out of the way. Down on Peter Street we just saw a mass of tourists—normal Saturday traffic on Queen Street—basically running scared for their lives. It was intense, it was very chaotic."

The death has sent shock waves through the city. Drake, who had a relationship with the up-and-coming MC, confirmed the passing and shared his thoughts on the incident on his Instagram story. "All these gifted and blessed souls and inner lights are being extinguished lately is devastating," he wrote, on top of a picture of himself and Smoke possibly performing together. "I wish peace would wash over our city. So much talent and so many stories we never get to see play out. Rest up Smoke."

Smoke Dawg was quickly making a name for himself in the 6 and put out his new "Fountain Freestyle" less than a week before his passing.
